New beat foi um estilo musical acidental, começou por volta de 87 na Bélgica quando um DJ embriagado tocou música de um 12” de 45 RPM em 33 – Flesh do A Split Second especificamente. O que era para ser um mero erro técnico acabou se tornando uma verdadeira mania, e logo, além de tocar várias músicas de 45 RPM em 33, também foram adicionadas diversas músicas de artistas variados pelo simples fato de terem BPM compatível . A parte mais curiosa é que essa seleção abrangia vários estilos, house, prog rock, industrial, minimal wave, ebm, etc.

E foi essa maluquice que precedeu as primeiras produções do gênero, muitas dessas bandas do período “pré” são até hoje frequentes em coletâneas do gênero, como Snowy Red, Fad Gadget e A Split Second.

O objetivo dessa coletânea é justamente fazer um apanhado das bandas mais inusitadas que eram tocadas naquela época, tanto com pitch reduzido quanto na velocidade original. Certamente que alguns questionarão a ausência dessa ou daquela música, mas para isso haverão outros volumes.

Agradecimentos especiais aos amigos belgas, sem os quais essa seleção não seria possível.

New Beat was a music style that was born by accident; it began back in 87 in Belgium, when some drunken DJ played a 45 RPM 12” in 33 by accident – Flesh by A Split Second specifically. What was meant to be just an ordinary mistake soon grew into a national mania and soon many other songs were played in that same BPM, a wide variety of artists from many styles were played in that way merely by fitting into the BPM. The most curious part of it was the variety of styles this selection contained, such as: house, prog rock, industrial, minimal wave, ebm, etc.

And it was the crazy period that preceded the first productions in the new beat style, many of these “pre” bands are still frequently seen in new beat compilations, e.g.: Snowy Red, Fad Gadget and A Split Second.

The goal of this sampler is to show a selection of the most unusual artists played in that era, whether with the slowed down pitch or in the actual speed. Certainly some will question the absence of this or that artist in the selection, but, don’t worry, for there will be other selections made later.
